Custom Marine Anchors
Kurt Foundry casts marine anchors for shipbuilders and dock operators, sized to your target holding power and cast in corrosion-resistant iron for years of saltwater service.
Engineered for Decades of Saltwater Service
An anchor is only as good as its holding power the day it’s needed most. Kurt Foundry casts marine anchors to your target weight and fluke geometry, then finishes them with corrosion protection suited for long-term saltwater exposure.
We work from your class-society specification or OEM drawing, and provide material certificates and dimensional reports to support classification approval on every order.
What We Customize for You
Every order is cast to your specification, not pulled off a shelf. Here’s what we tailor to your exact application.

Weight & Mass Control
Every anchor is poured and certified to your target mass, with a scale ticket included so your holding-power calculations stay accurate.

Fluke Geometry & Dimensions
Fluke angle, shank length, and stock dimensions are cast to your class-society or OEM specification.

Corrosion-Resistant Coating
Iron grade and surface treatment are selected for long-term saltwater exposure, reducing fatigue and pitting over the anchor’s service life.

Chain & Shackle Attachment
Ring and shackle attachment points are sized to your chain diameter and rated working load.
Material Grades
Not sure which iron grade fits? Our custom iron casting guide compares grey and ductile iron side by side.
Every marine anchors order is cast in the material grade that fits your application and duty cycle.
| Standard / Grade | Tensile Strength (MPa) | Yield Strength (MPa) | Elongation (%) | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ASTM A48 Class 30/40 (Gray Iron) | ≥ 207-276 | N/A (Brittle) | N/A | Standard dock and small-vessel anchors where cost efficiency matters most. |
| ASTM A536 65-45-12 (Ductile Iron) | ≥ 448 | ≥ 310 | ≥ 12 | Higher-load anchors for larger vessels requiring impact and fatigue resistance. |

How We Manufacture Your Custom Marine Anchor
Large anchor castings demand careful mold design and corrosion protection built in from the start.

1. Pattern & DFM Review
We engineer the gating and riser layout for your anchor’s shank, crown, and fluke geometry to ensure full density in the thickest sections.
2. Sand Molding for Large Castings
Anchors are molded in furan resin sand strong enough to resist the metallostatic pressure of a large-volume iron pour without mold movement.
3. Spectrometer-Verified Pour
Molten iron chemistry is verified before pouring to confirm the correct grade for your anchor’s target holding power and toughness.
4. Shakeout & Fettling
Castings are removed from the mold and gates, risers, and parting-line flash are ground smooth.
5. Corrosion Protection
Anchors receive rust-preventative coating or hot-dip galvanizing per your specification, protecting the casting through years of saltwater exposure.
6. Dimensional & Proof-Load Verification
Fluke geometry, shank dimensions, and shackle bores are checked against your drawing before the anchor is approved for shipment.
Quality Control for Marine Anchors
Anchors are safety-critical components — every casting is verified for soundness, dimension, and corrosion protection before it ships.

- Dimensional Verification:Fluke angle, shank length, and shackle bore are measured against your drawing on every anchor.
- Material Test Reports (MTRs):Full chemical composition documentation ships with every order for your classification-society or QA records.
- Coating Thickness Inspection:We verify corrosion-protection coating thickness meets your specification before packaging.
- Visual & NDE Inspection:Each anchor is visually inspected for surface defects, and critical sections can be NDE-tested on request.
