Frequently Asked Questions
We specialize in medium to high-volume industrial sand castings. While it depends heavily on the part’s size and complexity, our typical MOQ starts at 1 Ton per order. This ensures setup efficiency and highly competitive pricing. For exceptionally large, heavy individual components, we can accommodate lower quantities.
We highly recommend letting us machine your parts! Kurt Foundry operates a fully integrated facility with dedicated 5-axis CNC machining centers right next to the foundry floor. We deliver finished parts that are Ready-To-Assemble, saving you the hassle of finding a local machine shop.
To provide a fast and precise quote, including a DFM (Design for Manufacturability) review, we prefer 3D CAD models (STEP, IGES, or SolidWorks formats). Additionally, providing a 2D PDF drawing detailing your required tolerances, machining surfaces, and material grade is highly recommended.
For standard sand casting, we generally achieve tolerances aligned with ISO 8062 CT8 – CT10 grades, depending on the part’s size and geometry. For critical dimensions, bores, and mating surfaces, our in-house CNC machining guarantees exceptionally tight, blueprint-specific tolerances.
For a completely new project, tooling and pattern development typically takes 3 to 4 weeks. Once the initial sample is approved by your engineering team, bulk foundry production usually requires 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the complexity of in-house CNC machining required.
You do. The tooling and patterns are entirely the property of the client. We safely store and maintain them in our climate-controlled tooling warehouse free of charge for the lifetime of your production runs.
Yes. If you have an obsolete part or lack the original drawings, you can send us a physical sample. Our engineering team utilizes 3D scanning technology and CMM to reverse engineer the component and generate precise CAD models for pattern making.
All castings are professionally shot-blasted to a clean, uniform finish. Depending on your application, we also offer custom surface treatments including rust-preventative oil, primer painting, powder coating, hot-dip galvanizing, and passivation (for stainless steel).
Absolutely. The majority of our clients are located in the USA and Canada. We can offer DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) pricing. This means our logistics team handles the ocean freight, customs clearance, tariffs, and inland trucking directly to your facility’s loading dock. You do not need an import license.
Yes. As an ISO 9001 certified foundry, quality control is our priority. Every batch is tested via our in-house spectrometer. We provide full, traceable Material Test Reports (MTRs) including chemical composition and mechanical properties with every shipment to ensure strict ASTM/DIN compliance.
We stand behind our manufacturing. Our comprehensive NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) and CMM checks prevent defects from leaving our factory. However, if any parts are found to be non-compliant with the approved drawings, we will provide free replacements or account credit without hassle.
For new tooling/patterns, we generally require 100% payment upfront before manufacturing begins. For mass production orders, our standard terms are typically a 30% T/T deposit with the remaining 70% balance paid against the copy of the Bill of Lading (B/L). Terms can be negotiated for long-term partners.
